How to Clean and Maintain Outdoor Fountain

How to Clean Outdoor Fountain

Outdoor fountains enhance the beauty of the garden. Fountains are available in many types. Outdoor fountains are weather-resistant and aren’t damaged in any environment. But if it is not cleaned for a long time or the fountain water is wasted, the beauty of the fountain is lost. As a result, the fountain looks much dirtier, and the water flows are reduced. Due to the accumulation of dirt in the upper part of the fountain, the dirt accumulates in the fountain’s inner part, resulting in the motor being damaged at any time. So to avoid all these and keep the fountain beautiful, you should know how to clean the outdoor fountain. If you follow the information well, you can clean the fountain very easily.

Why Cleaning an Outdoor fountain Is Necessary

  1. Retaining the beauty of the fountain
  2. To avoid motor damage
  3. To change the impure water.
  4. To maintain an excellent outdoor environment.

How Often to Clean an Outdoor Fountain

There are several reasons why outdoor fountains become dirty, but the biggest reason is that the water is unclean. If the fountain water is damaged, dirt accumulates in the fountain, and minerals in the water accumulate inside the motor. But the fountain water is constantly flowing so dirt does not accumulate in the water. But when birds bathe, dirt and feathers fall on their skin, and the water is wasted. As a result, it can affect the motor very quickly. So considering all aspects, the fountain should change every three months. Outdoor fountains can cause more damage than this.

Needed Supplies

  • Equipment / Tools: Scrub brush, Rubber gloves, Pressure attachment hose (optional).
  • Materials: Water, Chlorine bleach.

Instructions

1. Discard Dirty Water

Dispose of impure water in the fountain to clean the outdoor fountain. For watering, please take all the water in a bucket and dispose of it in a designated place so as not to harm the environment.

2. Remove the Motor from the Fountain

After draining all the water from the fountain, remove the motor inside. If the fountain is significant, separate the parts to remove the motor. This will make it easier to remove the motor and clean the separate parts well while cleaning the fountain.

3. Clean The Motor

If you take the motor out after not cleaning the fountain for a long time, you will find minerals in the water sitting on top of the motor. The motor fan often gets mineral deposits, which reduces the water flow. Clean the top of the motor with a scrub brush. Use a pressure attachment hose to clean the motor’s inside. After cleaning the motor, let it dry in the sun.

4. Clean all Spouts and Tubing

Fountain cleaning is not about cleaning the motor or the basin. The tube used for water flow from the engine needs to be cleaned. Because the water in the tube becomes dirty due to dirt or algae, to clean the tube, keep it inside the tube with Chlorine bleach for 10 minutes. After the dirt or algae is destroyed, water should flow inside the tube at high speed, and for this, the pressure attachment hose works very well. After cleaning the tube, it should dry in the sun.

5. Clean the Fountain Basin

After cleaning the inside of the fountain, the outside should be cleaned thoroughly. To clean the fountain basin, light dirt should be thrown out of the basin with good water. Then, mix chlorine bleach with mild water and scrub well with a scrub brush. Clean the basin with clean water when dirt appears to be rising.

6. Rinse the Outdoor Fountain Basin

When all the fountain parts are well-cleaned, wash them with good water. To retain its beauty, it is not enough to clean only the basin; it is necessary to clean all parts of the fountain. If solid dirt is in any part of the fountain basin, you can clean it with Bleach.

7. Allow the Outdoor fountain to Dry Completely

After cleaning all the fountains, let them dry well in the sun. If you use the fountain again when wet, dirt will settle in it again after a few days because the algae in many parts will grow again! If dried in the sun, the fountain cannot be cleaned for a few months.

8. Assemble Fountains Perfectly

After cleaning and drying the fountain, it must be assembled. Observe the fountain while assembling. Otherwise, the sound of the fountain’s water flow will not be good, and the water can escape and spoil the environment.

9. Refill the Outdoor Fountain Basin

Once the fountain is completely assembled, fill the outdoor fountain basin with water. Distilled water should not be used for outdoor fountains. A little more water should be used while watering. Otherwise, you will hear the motor. After watering, turn on the engine and feel the sound of running water in the fountain.

Tips for Keeping Your Outdoor Fountain Cleaner Longer

The best way to keep an outdoor fountain clean is to keep it clean all the time. Although it needs to be cleaned occasionally, if you keep it clean, it will only need to be cleaned occasionally.

  1. When the water level in the fountain drops, discard the old water and use fresh water when watering.
  2. If you see leaves or other debris in the basin while watering, remove it.
